In Memory of James Jordan Funeral Assistant

September 20, 1936 ~ July 11, 2015

Before there was the internet or the funeral home marquee … there was James Jordan... anytime there was a deceased person, he would come by and get the person's name written down and take it around town to all the businesses so everyone knew who was at the funeral home.

James made the conscious decision everyday to get up and do … he rode his bike or walked everywhere everyday; delivering papers, cutting folks' grass, getting his plates (meals), going to the grocery store, etc, etc. Every Friday night he could be found in Buncombe at his beloved Out-Post listening to the Blue Grass music. He loved the Polk and Carroll county fairs; he didn't have a way to get there or back – but he always managed to find a way there and back, toward the end complaining that the hotdogs had gone up to $2! He was baptized at 14 at Riverside Baptist Church and never wavered from his devotion to his Lord and Savior. He enjoyed all the sacred harp singings, hardly ever missing one, as well as gospel music and was a member of the Highlands Baptist Church.

Before he succumbed to diabetes, all of Tallapoosa looked forward to his daily visits... and will keep his memory alive with their many James Jordan tales.
